Your health data is sensitive. We collect it only to provide the bolus calculation service. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than operating DiaConnect.
1. Who we are
DCI DiaConnect (Pty) Ltd ("DiaConnect", "we", "us") is a South African company registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC). We operate the DiaConnect WhatsApp bolus calculator service accessible at dcidiaconnect.co.za.

2. What personal information we collect
We collect the following categories of information when you use DiaConnect:
- Identity data: your first name and WhatsApp phone number
- Health data (special category): diabetes type, insulin-to-carb ratio (ICR), insulin sensitivity factor (ISF), target blood glucose range, blood glucose readings, meal photographs, and calculated bolus doses
- Account credentials: if you choose to connect your FreeStyle Libre, we store an encrypted authentication token (never your raw password)
- Usage data: timestamps and outcomes of each scan session
- Payment data: subscription tier and payment confirmation (card details are handled exclusively by PayFast and are never stored by us)
3. Why we collect it (lawful basis)
Under POPIA, we process your information on the following bases:
- Consent: you explicitly consent to health data processing during onboarding before any health data is collected
- Contract: to provide the bolus calculation service you have requested
- Legal obligation: to comply with South African law including POPIA and tax legislation
4. How we use your information
- To calculate your meal bolus and correction dose
- To fetch your blood glucose reading from LibreLinkUp (if connected)
- To maintain your scan history
- To send you service-related WhatsApp messages
- To process your subscription payment
- To comply with legal and regulatory requirements
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following processors, each bound by contractual data protection obligations:
- Anthropic, Inc. — meal photos and conversation context are processed by the Claude AI API to generate carb estimates. Anthropic processes this data solely to provide the API service.
- Abbott Diabetes Care (LibreView/LibreLinkUp) — if you link your sensor, we retrieve your glucose readings from Abbott's servers using your credentials.
- Supabase, Inc. — encrypted database hosting for your profile and scan history.
- PayFast (PTY) Ltd — payment processing for paid subscriptions.
6. How long we keep your data
- Active accounts: data is retained while your account is active
- Inactive accounts: data is anonymised or deleted after 12 months of inactivity
- Following a deletion request: personal data is purged within 30 days
- Financial records: retained for 5 years as required by South African tax law
7. How we protect your data
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+)
- Databases are encrypted at rest using AES-256
- LibreLinkUp credentials are stored as encrypted tokens only
- Access to production systems is restricted to authorised personnel
- We maintain a breach response procedure and will notify the Information Regulator and affected users without undue delay in the event of a breach
8. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information (right to erasure)
- Withdraw consent at any time (this will terminate your ability to use the service)
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za

9. Children
DiaConnect is not intended for use by persons under the age of 18 without the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. If you are under 18, please ensure a parent or guardian reviews this policy and provides consent on your behalf.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via WhatsApp message. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

1. Acceptance of terms
By using DiaConnect ("the Service") you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
2. The Service
DiaConnect is a WhatsApp-based bolus calculator that uses artificial intelligence to estimate carbohydrate content from meal photographs and suggest insulin doses based on your personal settings. The Service is provided by DCI DiaConnect (Pty) Ltd.
3. Medical disclaimer
The Service is a decision-support tool only. It:
- Is NOT a registered medical device under South African law
- Does NOT replace the advice of a registered medical professional
- Does NOT guarantee accuracy of carbohydrate estimates or bolus suggestions
- Should NOT be used as the sole basis for any insulin dosing decision
DCI DiaConnect (Pty) Ltd accepts no liability for any harm arising from dosing decisions made using or influenced by the Service.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Users under 18 must have a parent or guardian create and manage the account. By registering, you confirm you meet this requirement.
5. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the accuracy of your profile settings (ICR, ISF, target range). Incorrect settings will produce incorrect suggestions. You agree to keep your profile up to date and to inform DiaConnect of any changes advised by your healthcare provider.
6. Subscription and billing
- Free tier: limited to 1 meal scan per day at no charge
- Standard plan: R99/month, 3 scans per day
- Pro plan: R199/month, 10 scans per day
- Subscriptions are billed monthly in South African Rand (ZAR)
- Payments are processed by PayFast. Refunds are at our discretion and handled on a case-by-case basis
- We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the Service
- Share your account with others
- Provide false information during setup that could affect safety
8. Intellectual property
All content, branding, and software comprising the Service is the property of DCI DiaConnect (Pty) Ltd. You may not reproduce or distribute any part of the Service without written permission.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, DCI DiaConnect (Pty) Ltd shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of or reliance on the Service, including but not limited to adverse health outcomes.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
11. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated via WhatsApp. Continued use of the Service after notification constitutes acceptance.
